We are always looking for easy weeknight meals. Who has time for meals that require a lot of ingredients and lots of time? Not us! This Chili Cheese Dog Bake has come to the rescue many time! Not only is this simple to make but it’s a family friendly dish.

Kids big and small love these hot dogs made with cheddar cheese and crescent rolls cooked in chili. The great thing about this casserole is you can use your own homemade chili or use a canned chili. There are so many good canned chili’s you can purchase these days. We always have a few cans in the pantry for recipes like this. We have used both homemade chili and store bought and for this recipe a good canned chili will do just fine.

Can you prepare Chili Cheese Dog Bake ahead?

Yes you can prepare most of this recipe ahead of time. You can make the hot dogs with the cheddar cheese and crescent rolls in the morning or earlier in the day and store them in a plate wrapped in plastic wrap until your ready to bake them.

Chili Cheese Dog Bake!

When we first made this hot dog concoction we figured kids would love it because of the hot dogs and cheese. We needed to add a more adult flair to this somewhat kid type dish. But,the chili how would that go over? Surprising well actually.

How to make Chili Cheese Dog Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375˚F.
  • Spread heated chili in the bottom of a greased 11×7-inch baking dish.
  • Unroll the dough and cut into four even strips.
  • Cut the cheese sticks in half lengthwise.
  • Place a hot dog in the center of a piece of dough. Place each half of the cheese stick on either side of the hot dog.
  • Wrap the dough around the cheese and hot dog, overlapping slightly in the center. Repeat with remaining dough, hot dogs, and cheese.

  • Place the wrapped hot dogs on top of the chili in the baking dish.
  • Bake 20 minutes, until the dough is light golden.
  • In a small bowl, microwave the butter until melted. Stir in the garlic powder and parsley.
  • Brush the butter mixture on the tops of the wrapped hot dogs.

How long do these last?

This is not one of those recipes you want to save for later. They get quite soggy from sitting in the chili. We never have leftovers but we do make certain to pretty much what we think we will be eating.

Funny thing is now we make this just for us! No kids needed. So we posted the recipe for four and you can easily double or triple it for your family or a crowd. This is the perfect recipe to serve for family gathering, cook outs, game day or any occasion you just want to have a little fun!

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. canned chili, heated, or your own homemade
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent dough sheet
  • 4 cheddar cheese sticks
  • 4 beef hot dogs
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp.  parsley

Notes

NOTE: This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled ect.
