Expert Tips

  • For the best flavor, prepare the salad at least two hours in advance to allow the ingredients to meld together.
  • Don’t overcook the pasta—it should be al dente to maintain the perfect bite.
  • We like to make the hard-boiled eggs the day before, so that they are easier to peel when we are ready to make this salad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

How long will this salad keep?

Stored properly in the refrigerator, this salad will stay fresh for up to 3 days. If you’re planning to enjoy it later, we recommend keeping any delicate toppings, like herbs or extra cheese, separate and adding them just before serving.

Why do I need to use al dente pasta?

Using al dente pasta is essential because it holds its shape and texture better when mixed with the other ingredients and stored. Overcooked pasta can become mushy, which impacts the overall quality of the salad.
