For the Guacamole

  • Avocados – ripened until soft
  • Lime – juiced
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt
  • Roma tomato – diced
  • Purple onion – diced
  • Cilantro – chopped

For the Tortilla Chips

  • Corn tortillas
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt

🔪 How to Make Homemade Guacamole and Chips

Making this guac is as easy as the trip to the grocery store you’ll make to get the ingredients. It all comes together in just a matter of minutes.

Step 1: Mash the Avocados

Cut the avocados in half and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl. Mash with a fork or potato masher until the avocado is as chunky or as smooth as you prefer.

Step 2: Add the Remaining Ingredients

Add the juice of one lime, garlic powder, and salt. Stir well. Then, add the diced tomato, diced purple onion, and chopped fresh cilantro and mix until just blended. Taste and add more salt and garlic powder if necessary.

Step 3: Cut the Tortillas

Cut each tortilla into 8 wedges with a sharp knife.

Step 4: Fry

Heat 2 inches of oil in a large heavy pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees. Then, fry the tortilla wedges in small batches until lightly browned, flipping once during frying.

Step 5: Drain and Cool

Transfer the fried hips to a plate lined with paper towels and sprinkle with salt. Repeat until all tortillas are fried. Cool slightly or to room temperature and serve with the guac.

  • Lime Juice – You can use lemon juice instead of lime juice.
