This Easy Baklava Recipe brings the flavors of a European delight to your holiday table. This classic dessert features flaky phyllo dough stuffed with a sweet mixture of ground walnuts and citrus honey syrup, then it’s all baked to golden perfection.
– Phyllo dough – Butter – Walnuts – Sugar – Cinnamon – Ground cloves
To prepare baklava, preheat the oven to 350°F. In a food processor, finely chop walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, and clove. Unroll phyllo dough and cut to fit the pan if necessary. Brush a baking dish with melted butter and layer phyllo sheets with melted butter in between.
Sprinkle walnut filling over every other layer of phyllo. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with a final layer of 5 phyllo sheets on top. Cut into diamond or square patterns and bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
For the syrup, combine sugar, water, honey, and orange zest in a pan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes until thickened. Once baklava is out of the oven, pour cooled syrup over it. Allow baklava to cool and soak up the syrup for several hours before serving.
