Ingredients
Crust
3 ¼cupsflour
½tsp.salt
¾cupshortening
3eggs, lightly beaten
⅓cupmilk
Filling
8cupspeeled and sliced apples
1 ½cupsgranulated sugar
1tsp. ground cinnamon
½tsp. ground nutmeg
1cupcrushed cornflakes
1egg white, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and shortening. Cut shortening into flour until the mixture is crumbly.
Add in eggs and milk and mix until doughy. Break dough into two, and chill for 20 minutes.
Roll one of the balls of dough out to fit the bottom and sides of a 15 x10 baking sheet. Spread the apples over the pie crust.
Mix the seasonings and cornflakes and then spread evenly over the apples.
Roll out the second piecrust and cover the pie with it. Seal the top and bottom crusts together. Make several slits on the top of the pie to let steam out. Brush with egg white.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes and then reduce the heat to 350 and bake for another 25-30 minutes or until nicely golden.
