Expert Tips

  • Look for steak with white flecks of fat but not thick strands of it. This recipe won’t cook long, so thick strips of fat won’t have the time they need to break down.
  • Slice the peppers and onions into equal sizes.
  • For firmer veggies, make your slices thicker. For softer veggies, slice them thinner.
  • Ensure your packets are completely sealed to trap the heat and moisture.

Steak Fajita Foil Packets FAQ

Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

What kind of steak is best for steak fajita foil packets?

While traditional fajitas are best with skirt or flank steak, these foil packets require cuts like ribeye or New York strip. These packets only cook for about 20 minutes, which is not long enough for skirt or flank steak to get tender.

Can you use Old El Paso fajita seasoning on steak?

You absolutely can. These steak fajitas utilize a seasoning packet, such as Old El Paso, to impart their classic fajita flavor. You can also rub fajita seasoning on steak before preparing it the traditional way for a Mexican-inspired flavor.

What kind of foil is best for steak fajita foil packets?

Heavy-duty foil is the ideal choice for these packets. The thickness of the heavy-duty foil ensures it won’t rip while you fold up the packet, allowing you to trap the heat and moisture inside where they belong.
