We serve Prime Rib Roast at almost every holiday except for Thanksgiving.  If you cook it right it will melt in your mouth.

 

We like to keep things very simple and use just a few simple seasoning. You get the flavor of the meat that way. Plus there are so many sides being passed around the table that are full of their own flavor the Prime Rib Roast doesn’t need much more than it’s own deliciousness.

Internal Temperatures For Rib Eye Roasts:

Here are some internal temperatures you’ll want to follow when cooking beef. Rare = 125°, medium rare = 130­°-135°, Medium = 140°-145°, medium well = 150°-155°.

Rib Eye Roast

Ingredients

  • 4.5 - 5 lb rib eye roast, bone in
  • 1 tbsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 ¼ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • 1.Let roast sit out at room temperature for an hour prior to cooking.
    2.Place a large cast iron skillet in the oven and preheat to 475°.
    3. While oven and skillet are preheating, whisk together, salt, pepper and garlic salt in a small bowl, then rub all over roast.
    4.Carefully remove skillet from the oven once 475° is reach.
    5.Place rib eye roast in skillet, fat side up, and carefully place back in the oven. Do not cover the roast.
    6.Cook for 30 minutes on 475° then lower the temperature to 325° and cook for 1 - 1/2 hours.
    7. Turn oven off but leave roast  in the oven for 1 1/2 hours. Do NOT open the oven door.
    8. After the hour and a half, turn oven back on to 325° and continue cooking for about 30 minutes.
    9. Remove from oven, let rest for about 15 minutes then enjoy!

  1. We just did our Prime Rib Last week-end. In my Dutch oven, I get it hot and I use my spice mix….
    1 cup salt, 1/4 cup garlic powder & 1/4 cup black pepper….I keep it all mixed in my shaker bottle. I season all sides of the Prime rib then sear all sides. I put it in the oven for 450 degrees for 1 hour. Then turn the oven off and let it sit for 1 hour. Prime rib comes out perfect….Enjoy
