Is there actual caffeine in this bread recipe?
Yes, there is. That’s where all that delicious coffee flavor comes from! There’s instant coffee and expresso both making this the perfect breakfast bread. Unless you plan on eating a whole loaf it makes for a great dessert too and won’t keep you up at night regardless of the caffeine content. There ends up being just a little bit in each slice. But enough that you will definitely taste all that great coffee flavor.
This bread is a wonderful way to start your day! Or if you need a little afternoon snack. The coffee flavor really makes them super tasty. You will keep on going back for more. Quick breads are one of my favorite things to bake since they are so easy. Plus they are perfect for gift giving.

Instructions:
This bread is really easy to make. The bread is made in one bowl and if you choose to go “naked” without frosting the bread is just as delicious!
Step 1:
For the Bread:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9×5 loaf pan by greasing and lightly flouring. In the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, add the butter, and sugar, and mix until whipped, and light and fluffy. Add the eggs, and mix well. Add the Vanilla, Starbuck’s instant coffee and espresso powder, and mix until well blended.
Step 2:
With mixer off, add the flour, baking powder, and salt, and mix on low until blended. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl, and blend again until completely mixed. Remove mixing bowl from mixer, and fold in the mini chocolate chips.
Step 3:
Pour batter into the greased and floured loaf pan, and place in the oven at 350 degrees, for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. When loaf is baked, remove to a wire rack to completely cool.
For the Frosting:
Step 1:
In the mixing bowl, add the butter, and whip with the whisk attachment until the butter is almost white in color, light, and really fluffy. Add the Sweetened condensed milk, and blend well. Add the teaspoon of HOT water to the instant coffee to form a paste.
Step 3:
Add the coffee paste to the mixing bowl, and blend until completely mixed. Frost the loaf with the frosting, and sprinkle with mini chocolate chips.
What other mix ins can I add to this bread?
We think this bread is pretty special just as is but you can add a couple of other ingredients too. We have added peanut butter chips and white chocolate chips also. Also we like to add some caramel too.

We always have a few quick breads in the freezer. They are handy to have when you are having company and don’t have time to make a dessert. This bread can be frozen with or without the frosting on it. You can always make a quick frosting when you defrost it.
What other toppings would go well on this Chocolate Chip Bread?
Even though it is seriously perfect as it is, you could always add on more chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, or even a tad bit of coconut flakes as well. I’ve also had crushed pecans on top too and it’s quite nice! And if you really want to be naughty, don’t forget to add on some whipped cream!
If you’re looking for a simple bread recipe that really is made for breakfast, this tasty treat will be the perfect companion to your cup of hot coffee or cocoa. Why deprive yourself of something so tasty and good?
