🔪 How to Make Hobo Dinner Foil Packets

It only takes a few minutes and a few simple steps to make this delicious recipe.

Step 1: Make Beef Patties

Form the beef into four evenly-sized patties and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 2: Fill the Packets

Place a patty in the center of each piece of aluminum foil. Then add potatoes, carrots, and onions in equal amounts to each piece of foil. Drizzle olive oil over all ingredients and sprinkle them with French onion soup mix.

Step 3: Close the Packets

Fold the long sides of the foil sheets up and over the contents and roll them closed to secure.

Step 4: Bake

Bake the packets for 30 minutes at 400 degrees. When done, carefully open the packets and serve.

Step 5: OR Cook Over the Fire

If camping, place a cooking grate over your fire. Be sure the fire isn’t so large that the flames come through the grate. Then, cook the packets for 30 minutes or until done.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pound Ground beef
  • 1 Packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 pound Baby gold potatoes cut into pieces
  • 2 Carrots peeled and sliced
  • 1 Onion sliced
  • 2 Tablespoon Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 Large sheets of aluminum foil

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

  • Add an equal amount of potato, carrot and onion to each foil packet.
