Love Potion Cocktail
If you find yourself trying to make the most of valentines day you may want something a bit stronger to serve. Because of how simple this drink is there are so many great ways you can customize it to fit your needs and even your personal tastes. I suggest gathering the ingredients and a few fun substitutions and add-ins and placing the recipe on the table in a cute card if you are not going to have someone serving drinks to make it easy for everyone to serve themselves. For a more intimate night, you can mix up a decanter with a few servings to make it ready to serve with dinner.

Directions for your Love Potion Cocktail
This cocktail is easy to make and you do not need to have any bartender skills to make it work. Let your inner James Bond show while you make this drink “Shaken not stirred.”
Step 1:
Add ice to a cocktail shaker. If you do not have one you can use a mason jar with the lid or even a shaker bottle designed for protein shakes. The important part is that it will seal well so you do not have your drinking flying around the room.
Step 2:
Add in your ingredients. The order here doesn’t matter at all.
Step 3:
shake lightly. You don’t need a lot of strength to mix this together if you can save a little bit of the bubbles from the soda that would be perfect. Strain or pour your drink into your glass leaving the ice out.
Step 4:
Garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve cold.
Blue Curacao
Most of the ingredients in this cocktail are pretty common but you may not have heard of Blue Curacao. Blue Curacao is a liquor made in Curaçao with an unusual blue color. This gives the Love Potion cocktail a deep purple color that makes the perfect backdrop for the bright red cherry. This unique blue liquor is flavored with the peel of the laraha orange grown in the Caribbean giving an exotic twist to the cocktail that goes well with the deep flavor of the cranberry juice and the light crisp lemon-lime soda. If you need a substitute for this ingredient try something with a hint of orange in it.

How to customize your love potion cocktail
Like any potion, your love potion cocktail can be personalized as much as you want to make for the perfect fit for your date night. Take it up a notch by adding some purple or pink edible glitter and giving the glass a swirl.
You can change out the flavorings to fit your needs. The lemon-lime soda here would swap out really well with cream soda for a sweet flavor with the bubbles intact.
The cranberry juice can swap out really well with pomegranate juice, a common aphrodisiac that would be perfect for spicing up a romantic date when used in your love potion cocktail.
Flavored vodka can make a great way to customize the flavor even further. Look for something sweet or fruity to add like cherry or vanilla depending on the final flavor you are looking for in your drink.
If you are not a fan of grenadine you can use the juice from your maraschino cherries as a simple and effective substitute that will help to get the same color and a lighter flavor. If you have pomegranate juice you can use that as a substitute for grenadine for a less sweet option than the maraschino cherry juice.
How to make a non-alcoholic version of the love potion
If you want to make a non-alcoholic version for a get-together that may have kids or non-drinkers around you can make a few simple substitutes. Swap out the vodka for a simple club soda. This will help keep the ratios the same. to get the blue color that makes the drink a deep purple you may have to get a bit creative. A blue raspberry soda or water flavoring will help replace the blue coloring of the Blue Curacao but will not give you the same citrus tang. If you can find a blue citrus non-alcoholic drink this would be an even better substitute.
Making this cocktail in a larger batch
If you want to make a decanter with a few servings of this drink you can go ahead and simply multiply the recipe by how many servings you want. Do not store this with ice in it as the ice will after it down. Instead, place the decanter in a bucket of ice like you would a bottle of wine.
To make a bulk batch to fill your punch bowl you will need to stir instead of shake. Place your punch bowl inside a bowl of ice and start with cold ingredients. If you need to use ice in it to cool faster, fish the ice out after stirring it around gently.
Storing your love potion cocktail
If you make more than you need or need to whip up your love potion cocktail ahead of time you can store it in an air-tight container. This will help to keep the bubbles from the soda intact for a while longer. This will allow its fizz after several hours. To make ahead but level the fizz when you need it you can mix the other ingredients ahead of time and add the soda in before serving.
