Where Does Dump Cake Come From
The dump cake is a very new kid on the block relatively speaking. Humans have been baking for centuries, but the dump cake came along in 1980.
The very first reference to this type of cake occurred in a Duncan Hines holiday baking brochure. It was a basic recipe using a can of crushed pineapple, a can of cherry pie filling, a box of yellow cake mix, and sliced butter.
It must have been a great recipe because fast forward to today, and you can find a bazillion dump cake recipes all over the internet.

Dump Cake vs. Cobbler
Many people confuse dump cakes with cobbler, and it’s easy to see why. Both of these baking methods involve pouring ingredients into a baking dish and letting them meld as they cook in the oven.
They are different, however. Cobblers consist of a sweet or savory filling poured into a baking dish and then topped with a batter, biscuit, or dumpling before baking.
On the other hand, dump cakes don’t have a separate batter prepared and poured on top. There’s no stirring involved and no secondary topping. All of the ingredients are literally dumped into the baking dish.

Serving Chocolate Mint Oreo Dump Cake
Serving up this delicious cake is as easy as making it. The best way to serve this dump cake is warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s sooooo good. That’s it. It’s such a delicious recipe, you don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles to make it amazing.
Storing the Cake
Let me start by saying that this dump cake needs to be refrigerated. Unlike dump cakes made with just fruit and cake mix, this dump cake uses whipped topping and sweetened, condensed milk, both of which need to be refrigerated. This is not the cake to keep on the counter.
This chocolate mint Oreo dump cake will stay good for about three days in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. For longer storage, you can freeze it for up to three months in an air-tight, freezer-safe container.
Reheating the Cake
Oreo dump cake can be served hot or cold. It’s delicious both ways. Of course, the easiest way to eat the leftovers is right out of the fridge, but if you prefer a warm cake, it’s an easy process.
To reheat your cake, simply place it in a microwave-safe dish and microwave for 30 seconds at a time until it’s as warm as you like. Use 30-second increments so you don’t overheat it to the point of actually adding on cooking time. You don’t want a tough cake!

It was very delicious and easy to make. However, it stuck to the bottom of the pan, I’m wondering if I should have greased the bottom before putting the Orioles down
Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear that Deloris. We have never had that happen but it wouldn’t hurt to use some cooking spray on it next time. I’m glad you thought it was delicious and easy to make ๐
