TikTok Feta Bake
This TikTok feta bake is rich, cheesy, and full of flavor. Inspired by the TikTok craze around the recipe this pasta bake is bursting with feta cheese, basil, tomatoes, and a little kick of red pepper flakes.
Who here loves TikTok? We’d ask for a show of hands, but it’s the internet so… Here’s the thing. My husband and I love TikTok. Yes, yes, we don’t exactly fit the age bracket you normally think of when you think of this video platform, but there’s a lot to be found there.
If you haven’t visited TikTok, you should know it’s so much more than just videos of kids dancing, singing, and doing the latest crazy internet thing out there.
It’s also full of cute animals, makeup tutorials, fun craft ideas, and most importantly – at least to us – recipes!
While I was exploring TikTok the other day, I stumbled upon a new recipe making the rounds – the TikTok feta bake. That’s right, the new generation of the internet has discovered the joys of feta cheese and casseroles. *sniff* I’m so proud.
The wife and I watched it, and we both decided after watching a few videos that we needed to create our own version of this delicious TikTok sensation. And that’s just what we did!
Creamy Baked Feta Pasta
We love the creamy texture of this baked feta pasta. Not only is it easy but it has so much flavor! Feta is an underused cheese if you ask me. We used it in this baked pasta and also added it to a quick chicken and vegetable dish we threw together on the fly one night. It definitely added great flavor and a nice creaminess to the dish.
Creamy baked feta pasta is so worth a try. We have tried making it a couple of different ways. This was our first try. It was easy, delicious and one of our go to dinners now.
What You Need to Know About Feta Cheese
Before we get into this recipe, it’s important that you know a little bit about feta cheese. You’ve probably heard people say things like, “feta cheese tastes like feet” or “feta cheese smells like my gym socks”. Well, it’s hard to argue with that. Feta cheese can be pungent, but don’t let that deter you. It’s actually delicious.
Why Feta Cheese Has Such a Strong Smell
Feta is a soft white cheese made from a combination of cow and goat milk.
“But Rob and Maria, lots of cheese is made from both of these milk types, and they don’t smell like gym socks,” you’re saying.
Well, that’s true, but the thing that makes this cheese so pungent is also what makes it so good.
This Greek cheese has a salty, tangy flavor with hints of lemon that can range from mild to sharp. It gets this flavor from being aged in brine. The process of making feta also uses a bacteria that is a cousin of the one that can be found on sweaty skin areas like, you guessed it, our feet.
Don’t worry! Feta may have a strong aroma, but the flavor is absolutely delicious. It’s a creamy, albeit strong, flavor that is actually so, so good if you give it a chance.
If it doesn’t have a nice strong aroma that isn’t a good feta cheese.

TikTok Feta Bake Tips
While this might literally be the easiest recipe we’ve ever posted on our site, there are a couple of things to remember when making this recipe. These watch-outs will help ensure that you make the tastiest feta bake possible.
Make Sure the Feta Cheese is Fresh
If you bought fresh feta cheese for this recipe, you won’t have to worry. However, if you regularly use feta cheese, you might have already had some in your fridge. If that’s the case be sure it’s fresh and edible.
Feta cheese already has a very strong odor, but there’s a CERTAIN strong odor that it has. While pungent, feta should never actually stink. If your cheese is hard or sandy it’s too dry to use. If it smells like ammonia – some people say urine – then it is definitely not edible.
Make Sure the Feat is High-Quality
There are so many cheese manufacturers out there, you’ll have a lot of choices when you shop for your feta cheese. Always go for the highest-quality feta cheese available produced by the most reputable cheesemakers.
With the strong flavor and aroma of feta cheese, you definitely want a high-quality product. You’re going for a rich, delicious pasta bake, not something that is stinky and devoid of flavor.
Fresh Basil is Key
If you have dried basil in your pantry, you might be tempted to use that in your TikTok feta bake instead of fresh basil. Resist! Resist the temptation!
Fresh sliced basil is absolutely essential for this recipe. You just can’t get the same flavor from dried basil, and that fresh basil flavor pairs so amazingly well with the feta cheese.
Serving TikTok Feta Bake
This delicious cheesy noodle bake is made with feta, so you already know it has a bold flavor. Because of the lemony quality to it, it works well with other classic Greek-inspired dishes like lemon garlic chicken or lamb recipes.
Storing Feta Cheese Bake
This recipe will keep well in the refrigerator for about 5 days in an air-tight container. You can’t freeze this recipe because the flavor of feta changes after it’s thawed out. So enjoy this tasty, cheesy bake within that 5-day time frame.
FAQ
Q: Feta has such a strong smell. How do I know if it’s good or bad?
A: While feta does have a pungent smell, there’s a certain kind of smell that is good and a certain kind that’s bad. You want your cheese to smell bold and tangy. If it smells like ammonia, or in some extreme cases urine, it is most definitely bad.
Q: I made this TikTok feta bake, and it tastes off. What happened?
A: Again, fresh feta is key. You probably used cheese that was past its prime. Old feta isn’t pleasant.
Q: What kind of noodles should I use in this recipe?
A: You can use any kind of noodle you like, but we prefer to use short noodles like macaroni, penne, and the like. It’s easier to eat, and it holds all the cheesy goodness much better.
Q: How long will this feta bake last?
A: This recipe will keep in the fridge for about 5 days in an air-tight container. Don’t freeze it. Feta changes flavor after it’s thawed out.
