We love apple pie. Like most people we know, the filling is our favorite part, so we decided to make a recipe that focused on the wonderful flavor of apple pie filling. We love to serve this salsa with homemade cinnamon tortilla chips, too. Yummo!

For the Apple Salsa

  • Medium apples – Peeled, cored, and chopped into 1/4-inch cubes.
  • Brown sugar, packed
  • Granulated sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Water
  • Cornstarch

  • Flour tortillas
  • Granulated sugar

🔪 How to Make Apple Salsa

Making both the apple pie salsa and the cinnamon sugar tortilla chips is incredibly easy. It only takes a few minutes and a few simple steps for both, and you’ll be all done in no time!

Step 1: Mix the Ingredients

Combine the apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice in a medium mixing bowl.

Step 2: Cook

Heat a large skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat. Pour the apple mixture and water into the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and cover the pan. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for about 10 minutes until the apples are very tender.

Step 3: Thicken

Remove about 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid and whisk in the cornstarch. Then, pour the mixture back into the apple mixture in the pan. Stir and cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from the heat and serve warm or chilled.

Step 4: Prep the Tortillas

Mix the cinnamon and sugar together. Then, spray both sides of each tortilla with nonstick spray. Sprinkle both sides with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Step 5: Bake

Cut each tortilla into 8 wedges and lay them out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 9 to 12 minutes until golden and crispy.

Step 6: Cool

Cool the chips on a wire cooling rack and serve.

Ingredients

Instructions

Salsa:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the apple cubes, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Heat a large skillet or saucepan (with a lid) over medium-high heat. Pour the apple mixture and water into the pan. Bring to a boil, then cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer until the apples are very tender, about 10 minutes (the exact cooking time depends on the apples).
  • Remove about ½ cup of the cooking liquid from the pan and whisk in the cornstarch. Pour the liquid with the cornstarch back into the salsa and stir well. Allow the salsa to cook over medium-low heat until thickened.
  • Remove the salsa from the heat. Serve warm or chilled.

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • Pray both sides of each tortilla with non-stick cooking spray, then sprinkle both sides with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
