These easy blueberry cinnamon rolls are so good. It doesn’t take long to make them. And even if you’ve never made homemade pastries before, you can make these with this simple recipe. When you bake these cinnamon rolls the house is going to smell heavenly. It will wake everyone up if you put them in early and they are still sleeping! These cinnamon rolls can be prepared ahead of time up until the baking point. And just refrigerate then overnight until morning when your ready to bake them. How easy is that?

Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls 

How do you make Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls?

  • In the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, place the warm water and sugar, and stir until sugar is dissolved. 
  • Add yeast, stir, and let sit for about 10 minutes, or until yeast starts to look bubbly and creamy. 
  • Add oil, salt, and flour, a cup at a time, and stir.
  • Place on the stand mixer, and Knead dough, with dough hook for about 6 minutes.
  • Cover with Plastic wrap, and let sit in a warm place for dough to rise.  (you can turn on your oven for a couple of minutes to warm the oven, then turn it off, and set the dough in the warm oven to rise for 20 minutes. 
  • Remove the dough, and roll dough out on a flat surface, on Parchment paper,  in to a long rectangular shape, and 1/4 inch thick.
  • Brush dough with melted butter, and sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon and sugar over the dough.
  • Spread the Blueberry filling over the dough, but stop spreading filling about 1/2 inch from the edges.

How To Roll These Blueberry Cinnamon Roll

  • Starting with the long wide of the rectangle, roll the dough tightly, working the roll from one end of the dough to the other, making sure to roll as evenly as possible.
  • When you get to the last roll on the dough, you can pick up the parchment paper under the dough, and roll the end over the roll.  Then roll the parchment paper tightly around the log of dough.
  • Cut the dough in half in the center, and then cut the 2 halves in half.  Cut the halves in 3 equal pieces.
  • Place the rolls in a greased 9 X 13 dish, and brush the tops or sides with butter, and sprinkle a little sugar on top.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 12 – 14 minutes, or until the dough is a light golden brown.
  • When rolls are baked, remove the dish to a wire rack to cool.  Leave the rolls in the dish. While rolls are cooling, make the frosting. 
  •   In the mixing bowl, mix the cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • When rolls are cool to the touch, spread the frosting over the rolls. 

Can you use fresh blueberries for this recipe? 

You can but I can’t stress how good the pie filling actually tastes with these cinnamon rolls. It keeps them tasty and delicious. Plus it’s super easy! You can also use any pie filling you like for this like apple in the fall. It gives them a super moist flavor and delicious taste. We do use fresh blueberries to top them off. This is one cinnamon roll recipe where you’re going to be wanting to add on more of that blueberry taste and flavor.

How do you know when the cinnamon rolls are doing baking?

 First, the smell will help that is a given. Once the house starts smelling like a yummy cinnamon bun your getting very close. So check on them!  When they are just golden brown they are done!

We also have the rule in our house that if you can smell them baking, they’re getting very close to being done. Use your nose as your guide as well and make certain to peek at them in the oven once you start to smell that wonderful scent.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • ¼ cup  butter - melted
  • cinnamon - to sprinkle
  • sugar - to sprinkle
  • 1 can Blueberry Pie Filling

FROSTING:

  • 8 oz. cream cheese - softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
