Expert Tips

  • Cut your peppers and onions into strips of about equal size so they cook evenly.
  • Be sure you fully seal your packets so the heat and moisture stay inside where they belong.
  • Always preheat your air fryer for even cooking and accurate cooking times. It only takes about five minutes!
  • The packets will be full of hot steam, so be careful when opening them.
  • Use heavy-duty foil to prevent ripping or tearing as you fold up the packets.
  • Be sure your packets aren’t tightly wrapped. You want space above the chicken and veggies for the steam to circulate.

Hawaiian Chicken Foil Packets FAQ

Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

How do you cook with foil packets?

Always use heavy-duty foil to prevent ripping and tearing as you fold it around your ingredients. It’s essential to use a large sheet, allowing you to seal the packet well while still leaving sufficient room for steam to circulate. Finally, depending on the recipe, you may need to spray the foil with cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Do you cook Hawaiian chicken foil packets with the foil shiny side up or down?

It doesn’t matter. Either side will work because the shiny and dull sides are the result of the manufacturing process. They have no bearing on heat transfer or coking times.

Can I put foil in the air fryer?

It’s perfectly safe to use foil in the air fryer. However, there are some considerations to take into account. First, never line the entire air fryer basket or tray with foil. It can restrict airflow, leading to uneven cooking. The best way to use foil in the air fryer is to make foil packets.
