💭 Tips

  • We recommend large chocolate chips for these cookies for an ooey-gooey texture and a bigger pop of chocolate flavor.
  • Brown your butter on low heat until the solids have settled to the bottom of the pan and the butter has a nutty smell and amber color.
  • Be sure to cool the butter to room temperature before making your cookie dough. This prevents hot butter from scrambling your eggs.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before serving so the peanut butter cups have a chance to set after partially melting in the cookies.

⁉️ FAQ

Do you have questions about this recipe? Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

What does brown butter do in cookies?

Brown butter gives cookies a softer, more tender texture and adds a nutty, caramel-like flavor.

How do you know when brown butter is done?

Brown butter is done when the milk browned milk solids have separated and settled to the bottom of the pan, and the butter is a deep golden brown with a nutty aroma.

Why were my peanut butter cookies dry?

The most common culprit for dry peanut butter cookies is using too much flour. To avoid this, loosely spoon your flour into your measuring cup. Never scoop the flour out directly with the measuring cup. This compacts the flour, and you’ll end up using too much.
