Root Beer Float Waffles FAQ

If you have questions about these root beer float waffles, then read on. The following FAQ answers all the most common questions about waffles.

Are waffles just pancake batter cooked differently?
No, they’re not. Waffle and pancake batter share similar ingredients like egg, milk, and flour, but waffles are made with more fat. The extra fat is what makes them crispy on the outside.

Are waffles supposed to be crispy or soft?
Both! The outside of the waffle should be golden and a bit crisp, but the inside should be light and fluffy.

Why are my waffles chewy?
You overmixed the batter. Too much mixing overdevelops the gluten in the batter, making them tough and chewy.

How do I mix waffle batter?
To ensure your waffles are light and fluffy, whisk steadily and not too quickly until the batter is thoroughly mixed. A gentle touch develops less gluten.

How long are waffles good?
Waffles will last for about 3 days in the refrigerator or up to 3 months in the freezer.

How do I freeze waffles?
Place the waffles in a single layer on a baking sheet and open-air freeze them until hard. Then, place them in an air-tight, freezer-safe container in layers with parchment paper between the layers.
