To make this delicious cake you will need a handful full of basic ingredients. You may already have these ingredients on hand which can save you a trip to the grocery store.

Chocolate Cake Ingredients

  • Triple chocolate cake mix
  • Large eggs
  • Whole milk
  • Unsalted sweet cream butter, softened

Chocolate Frosting ingredients

  • Unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
  • Hershey’s cocoa powder
  • Powdered sugar
  • Pure vanilla extract

Garnish Ingredients

  • Cosmic Brownies
  • Chocolate rainbow crunch sprinkles

Chocolate Cosmic Brownie Cake Instructions

There are a lot of steps to making this cake, and the list may seem overwhelming but this cake is worth the effort we promise.  The following is a step by step guide on how to make this delicious cake.

Step 1: Preheat the oven and prepare the baking pan

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray cake pans with pam baking spray, set aside.

Step 2: Mix together the cake mix, eggs, milk and butter

Using a standing mixer or hand held mixer, beat together the cake mix, eggs, milk and butter until smooth and combined.

Step 3: Bake the cake layers

Split the batter between the 3 pans and bake for 25 -30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Step 4: Cool the cakes completely.

Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.

Chocolate Frosting Directions

Step 1: Beat together the frosting ingredients

Using a standing mixer or hand held mixer, beat all ingredients until combined, smooth and stiff peaks form.

Step 2: Add some of the frosting to a piping bag

Scoop about 1 1/2 C frosting into the piping bag and set aside.

Step 1: Leave out of cakes

Using the cake leveler, cut the domes off the cake rounds to make them leveled.

Step 2: Place the cake on a cake board

Place one cake round onto the cake board.

Step 3: Add the frosting to the cake

Scoop 1 1/2 C of the chocolate frosting onto the top of the cake and smooth evenly with the angled spatula.

Step 4: Add another cake round

Place another cake round on top of the first one.

Step 5: Frost the second cake layer

Scoop another 1 1/2 C of the chocolate frosting onto the second cake round and smooth evenly.

Step 6: Add the last cake round

Place the third cake round on top of the second one.

Step 7: Add the remaining frosting

Scoop remaining chocolate frosting onto the top of the cake and frost the entire cake.

Step 8: Add the cake to a stand

Place the cake on a cake stand in the middle of a cookie sheet.

Step 9: Add the sprinkles to the bottom of the cake

Sprinkle some of the rainbow sprinkles around the bottom of the cake.

Step 10: Chill the cake to harden the frosting

Place cake into the fridge for an hour to allow the frosting to firm up.

Step 11: Decorate the cake

Pipe dollops of chocolate frosting along the top of the cake.

Step 12: Top the cake with brownies

Place a piece of cosmic brownie in between the chocolate frosting.

Step 13: Add more sprinkles to the cake

Sprinkle some more rainbow sprinkles around the top.

Step 14: Serve and enjoy

Cut into slices and enjoy!

Hint: If you find that chocolate cake gives off too many crumbs, freeze the cake layers before frosting.

  • 4 Cups unsalted sweet cream butter, softened
  • 1 Cup Hershey’s cocoa powder
  • 8 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large piping bag fitted with a star tip

For the Garnish:

  • Cosmic Brownies
  • 3 Cups of chocolate rainbow crunch sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray cake pans with pam baking spray, set aside.
