Some nights we are looking for a comfort food but want something a little heathier. Our first thought goes to this Keto Unstuffed Cabbage Skillet.

My family loves cabbage rolls but we try to cut our carbs some nights of the weeks when we can. Also, we just don’t have the time to make cabbage rolls. That’s why this recipe is perfect! This ground beef recipe is the perfect choice for those who crave a meal that is not only incredibly easy to prepare and cleanup, but also doesn’t sacrifice when it comes down to the taste.

This Keto Unstuffed Cabbage skillet is a low-carb, easy dinner recipe ready in just about 35 minutes! Who doesn’t love a quick meal?! There are so many simple easy cabbage recipes you can put together in no time at all. One of our favorite side dishes to make with cabbage is to simply add cabbage to some bacon fat. Add some garlic powder, pepper and paprika and cook it up. Then add the cooked crisp bacon. It’s a great side dish and such an easy recipe for cabbage!

We love keto cabbage recipes in our house. Cabbage recipes are so good as a main dish or a side dish. Not only is cabbage on the cheaper side of the spectrum but it is so darn tasty. And cabbage is a staple food for people who follow a keto or low carb diet. There are so many recipes you can make with cabbage that are keto friendly.

Can I add rice to this cabbage dish?

Although this cabbage recipe is a Keto recipe believe me when I say you will never miss the fact that it does not have rice! But if you want rice you can add it also. There are no rules here. If you want more of a traditional cabbage and rice dish yes you can add rice. The other option is to add cauliflower rice to keep it Keto or low carb. Either way you make this cabbage dish it will be great!

One Skillet Meals

I don’t know about you but we LOVE one skillet meals. Hey if we don’t have a sink full of pots and pans we are happy! One skillet meals are the best! One skillet meals are a go to when you need no fuss meal. And your short on time.

Although being keto and low carb focused, this recipe is not complex to make, and utilizes only one skillet to get the job done! On a busy weeknight or any night a one skillet meal can certainly satisfy the whole family. And a huge bonus is that cleanup is a breeze!

Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Soup

Did you know you can transform this skillet meal into a soup? You sure can! Just make it the same way the recipe calls for then when your done adding your ingredients and cooking for a bit add a about three to four cups of beef broth. That is in addition to the beef broth that is already in the recipe.

We have turned this into an unstuffed cabbage roll soup if we have had leftovers. We find that it is a great way to stretch the leftovers and we love soup. So what better way to use up those leftovers!

What’s better than having one recipe one night then transforming it into another recipe another night?! We have been known to double this skillet recipe just so that we can have leftovers for meals like cabbage roll soup!

You can easily double this skillet recipe. When we do this we make it in a pot instead of a skillet. After half the mixture has cooled we then take half of the mixture and place it in a freezer safe container.

You can freeze up to 3 months. When your ready to use this simply take it out of the freezer and let it defrost in the fridge overnight. This put it back in a stock pot add about 6 cups of beef broth (more or less depending on how thin or thick you like your soup) and heat.

Easy Keto Unstuffed Cabbage Skillet

We have also used red cabbage mixed in with the green cabbage in this skillet meal. Really anything goes with this recipe. Use ground turkey or ground pork instead of beef. Use a mix of any of those meats and it will taste fabulous.

You really can’t go wrong because this is an easy skillet meal. Once you make it whether you are on a keto eating plan or not you will most likely love this. And if you need some extra heartiness and some carb serve this over some rice. We make some jasmine rice on the side for those that need a carb.

Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

We all love the classic cabbage roll recipe that’s for certain. But they do take quite awhile to make. Frankly time that most of us don’t have on a regular weeknight.

Yet we still want the flavors of those cabbage rolls but as I said we do try to eat a bit healthy a few nights a week if we can. These deconstructed cabbage rolls makes life so much easier and puts a bit of a healthier twist on them.

Inexpensive Meal

This recipe is inexpensive which makes it a great meal for any night of the week. Cheap and delicious is always the way to go. We always have ground beef in the freezer that we buy when it’s on sale. have our deep freeze packed with meats that are on sale.

They are perfect for an inexpensive meal. So making a meal like this is a great way to save some money and eat a delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil extra virgin split into two portions
  • 1 1/4 lb. 85% lean ground beef
  • 1 16 oz. bag coleslaw mix
  • ½ small diced red onion
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce, low carb
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt

Garnish

  • Red Onion
  • Green Onion
  • Parsley

Instructions

  • Heat a cast iron skillet on medium high heat. (or any other type of skillet)
  • In the hot skillet, add olive oil, ground beef, onion and minced garlic.
  • Cook everything until the beef is brown, stirring frequently. 5-7 min.
  • Remove the browned beef, onions and garlic from heat, and drain the grease.
  • Return the skillet and beef mix to the stovetop.
  • At medium high heat, add oil and all of the other ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium, and cover the pan with a lid allowing the skillet to cook for 15 minutes.
  • Uncover the skillet and simmer on medium heat until the liquid in the skillet has reduced. Be sure to stir frequently. Reducing the liquid should take around 12-15 minutes, but cooking times may vary depending on the type of stove or range.
  • For the perfect finish and presentation,garnish with parsley, fresh chopped green onion and red onion!
  • Serve and ENJOY!
