Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until creamy.

Step 3: Add the Remaining Ingredients

Mix in the flour and maraschino cherry juice until it comes together to form the dough, then fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and chocolate chips until well-blended.

Step 4: Shape the Cookies

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls by hand and place them on your baking sheet, flattening them slightly with the palm of your hand.

Step 5: Bake

Bake the cookies until set, then remove them from the oven and place them on a wire rack to cool.

Variations

If you want to personalize these delicious maraschino cherry chocolate chip cookies, we have some ideas we think you’ll love.

Chocolate Chips – You can use milk chocolate, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate chips for this recipe. They all work well with the cherries.

Nuts – Try adding chopped pecans or walnuts to these cookies for extra flavor and some great crunch.

Storage

These cookies will last for about a week in the refrigerator or up to a month in the freezer.

Tips

Although this recipe is extremely simple, there are still a few things you should know to ensure you make the best cookies you possibly can. These are simple tips, but they can make a big difference in your cookies.

Fully Soften Your Butter – The key to successful baking begins with softened butter. When your butter is fully softened, it will incorporate easily into your sugars giving you that light, fluffy texture that you need for really great cookies. If it’s not softened all the way, you’ll end up with a lumpy mixture with chunks of pure butter in it.

Flatten Your Cookies – These cookies really don’t spread. Whatever shape they’re in when you pop them in the oven is the shape you’ll get when they come out, so be sure to flatten them a bit with the palm of your hand to get the right shape and thickness.

Measure Your Flour Properly – Don’t just scoop the flour out with your measuring cup. That leads to using too much flour. Instead, fluff the flour with a spoon and spoon it into your measuring cup until it’s overflowing. Then, use the flat of a knife to level off the scoop.

How do I defrost these cookies?
Just take out the desired number of cookies and let them defrost on the counter.

Why are my cookies so dry?
You probably used too much flour. If you pack your flour into your measuring cup by scooping it out by the cupful, you’ll end up using too much which will make your cookies dry. You can also dry them out by overbaking them.

  1. Can you put a box of instant vanilla pudding mix in the cookie mix

    1. I’ve never tried it so I can’t say. I’ve made cookies with pudding mix in the cookies but I think it would make these cookies taste different than how they are supposed to taste and cut back on the cherry flavor.

  2. 5 stars
Could you use white chocolate chips to keep them bright?

    1. Sure you can use any kind of chips you would like. We just happen to like cherry and chocolate.
But any kind you like works fine
