Who invented Southern Fried Chicken?
Believe it or not, it was invented by the Scottish back in the day! They were the ones that decided to fry it, while the rest of the world was actually boiling it instead. (Thank goodness for them creating this dish!)
Can you cook this traditional southern fried chicken in a cast iron skillet?
You can, but it just might be a little more difficult to do it that way. If you can immerse the chicken into the oil to fry it, it just cooks it faster and more thoroughly together. However, if you want to use a cast iron skillet, you can! Just make certain to keep an eye on it and turn it to continue frying both sides as needed. (And it’s always good practice to check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer to make certain it’s cooked all the way through!)
