The creamy chicken and broccoli casserole is one of our favorites to make for almost any occasion or any reason, really. It is so easy and so good that it makes the perfect dish any time anywhere.

The recipe is all about creamy, cheesy comfort, and of course, adding broccoli immediately makes it a healthy dish – well, healthy-adjacent, anyway.

Seriously, though. Although the recipe is full of cheese, it’s also full of lean protein from chicken breast and the health benefits of broccoli, so it’s definitely a dish that you can indulge in without feeling like it’s devoid of nutrition.

Far more important to us foodies, however, is how delicious this creamy chicken and broccoli casserole is. Cream cheese and parmesan combine with creamed soup to create a creamy base that the chicken and broccoli pair so incredibly well with.

Fresh or Frozen Works

Of course, fresh veggies are best if possible, but if you’re in a pinch or you already have frozen vegetables, by all means, use them.

Frozen vegetables work just as well in this creamy chicken and broccoli casserole as fresh ones. And we always have bags of frozen broccoli and cauliflower in our freezer so they are always a go to veggie.

Try Different Soups

We generally use cream of chicken or broccoli for this casserole, but you can change the flavor a bit by using different cream soups. Any cream soup will work. Any soup substitution you make will change the flavor of the sauce a bit, but it will still work so well with the chicken and veggies. It’s worth giving it a try. Some great choices are:

  • Cream of Chicken
  • Cream of Broccoli
  • Cream of Celery
  • Cream of Mushroom
  • Cream of Potato

Top with More Cheese

We love the flavor of parmesan sprinkled on top of this casserole, but if you’re all about living the cheese life to its fullest, you can add another twist to this creamy chicken and broccoli casserole.

Consider topping the casserole with shredded cheese in the last 20 minutes or so of baking. Use any white cheese that strikes your fancy. Almost any of them will work. That last 20 minutes of baking will get the cheese on top all melty and delicious.

Serving Creamy Chicken and Broccoli Casserole

This one-dish meal is easy to serve. Just spoon it up on a plate, and that’s that. It’s as easy to serve as it is to make. It’s the main course and the sides all rolled into one!

  3. Looking for something easy to make tonight and something I haven’t made a thousand times already over the years. I have everything here. Now, just trying to think how I can change the color , without messing with the taste, my husband automatically thinks he will not like anything that is this white/creamy looking. I will figure it out. 🙂

    1. You can add some cheddar cheese or any yellow cheese to change the color a bit. Also you could add some panko bread crumbs on top to add some color. In the recipe I also say to add some different veggies like carrots to add color. We love the flavor and that is more important to us than the color. Then again we love fettucine alfredo 🙂
