🔪 How to Make Slow Cooker Chinese Spare Ribs

Making this recipe is incredibly simple. It only takes a little mixing, and then the slow cooker does all the work.

Step 1: Make the Sauce

Mix the soy sauce, honey, Hoisin, five spice blend, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, garlic, and red food coloring in a small bowl and set aside.

Step 2: Cut the Ribs

Cut the ribs up into two-rib sections.

Place the ribs and sauce in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours.

Step 4: Broil the Ribs and Thicken the Sauce

Remove the ribs and place them on a sheet pan lined with foil. Then, add the cornstarch to the sauce in the slow cooker. Broil the ribs for 5 to 6 minutes until caramelized. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds St. Louis style spare ribs
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Chinese five spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring optional
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds optional
  • Green onions optional

Instructions

  • In a small bowl mix, soy sauce, honey, hoisin, five spice blend, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, garlic, ginger, red food coloring (optional) and set aside.
  • Cut the ribs between the bones, every 2 bones.
  • Place ribs and marinade in an 8 quart slow cooker. Cook on low for 6 hours.
  • Remove ribs and place on a sheet pan lined with foil. Toss the cornstarch into the slow cooker with the marinade and stir, baste the ribs all over with the marinade from the slow cooker.
  • Place under the broiler for 5-6 minutes or until caramelized.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions and serve!
