Did you know that Nutella was invented  in the 1960s? It was created by an Italian pastry maker, who wanted to find a way to use hazelnuts, which were in abundance in his region of Italy. He created a spreadable paste made from hazelnuts and cocoa, and Nutella was born.

Now, Nutella is enjoyed by people all over the world. And it is the perfect ingredient for these Nutella cheesecake brownies.

To make this easy cheesecake brownie recipe, you only need a handful of ingredients. Most of these ingredients are pantry staples that you likely already have on hand. If you don’t already have these on hand, then after one quick trip to the grocery store you will be ready to make this fudgy, chocolatey dessert.

  • Cream cheese- room temperature
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Chocolate hazelnut spread (Nutella)

How to Make Nutella Cheesecake Bars

There are quite a few steps to help you make these Nutella bars but I promise that they are worth all the effort. Your entire family will be so glad that you made these delicious dessert bars.

Step 1: Prepare the brownie mix by following the instructions on the box

Prepare the brownie mix as the instructions are listed on the box.

Step 2: Bake the brownies

Bake in a prepared 9×9 pan following the temperature and time instructions on the box.

Step 3: Cool the brownies

Once baked, allow it to cool enough to touch.

Step 4: Press the brownies down

Using a large spoon, lightly press down on the brownie to compact it down slightly.

Step 5: Preheat the oven

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 6: Add cream cheese and sugar to a mixing bowl

To start the filling, place the cream cheese and sugar into a mixing bowl.

Step 7: Cream until smooth

Beat until smooth and creamy.

Step 8: Mix in the eggs and vanilla

Add in the eggs and vanilla extract.

Step 9: Fold in the marshmallow fluff

Once well combined, add in the marshmallow fluff and mix one final time.

Step 10: Pour cream cheese mixture over the brownies

Pour over the brownie and spread evenly.

Step 11: Drizzle the Nutella over the cheesecake layer

Using a spoon, drizzle the Nutella on the cheesecake evenly.

Step 12: Swirl the Nutella into the cheesecake bars

Take a toothpick and swirl around the Nutella into the cheesecake.

Step 13: Bake the cheesecake bars

Bake for 20 minutes.

Step 14: Reduce the heat and bake again

Once the 20 minutes are up, without opening the oven door, reduce the heat to 200 degrees and bake for an additional 30 minutes.

Step 15: Allow the cheesecake bars to rest

Once finished baking, turn the oven off leaving the cheesecake inside for 10 minutes.

Step 16: Remove the cheesecake bars from the oven

Remove and allow the cheesecake to come to room temperature.

Step 17: Chill the cheesecake bars

Once at room temperature, cover, and place in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.

Step 18: Cut and serve

Once chilled, take out and cut into 12 squares. Serve with fresh fruit or enjoy as is.

Hint: You can line your pan with parchment paper for easy removal, which will give you the best way to cut even squares.

Do not overmix: Once you add the eggs, be careful not to overmix. Overmixing can cause your cheesecake bars to crack.

Line your pan with parchment paper: This is not a must but it does make for easy removal and gives you nice, clean lines when cutting into squares.
