We love kielbasa in our family. We grill it, use it in soups, bake it , fry it , saute it, you name it we have done it. Pierogies and kielbasa are both classic Polish comfort foods and they can be made many different ways. This simple skillet meal takes about 30 minutes to make. This is a great weeknight meal when your short on time!

 This is a delicious Skillet Kielbasa Sausage and Pierogies skillet meal. It blends together kielbasa, bell peppers and onions with pierogies and it’s topped off with cheese and we love it with sour cream.

This is such a simple dinner to put together. We always have kielbasa sausage on hand. We buy it when it’s on sale and toss it in the freezer for dishes just like this. Pierogies are always in the freezer too. And of course we always have vegetable in the fridge. this time we used red, green and yellow peppers plus yellow onions but you can also add mushrooms, sliced zucchini or any of your favorite vegetable.   

Skillet Kielbasa Sausage and Pierogies

These are the three basic ingredients in this tasty meal.

 

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the kielbasa and cook on each side until it begins to brown. Remove the browned kielbasa from the skillet and set aside. Leave the oil in the skillet. Add the bell pepper and onions to the skillet and cook over medium heat until softened, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Boil the frozen pierogi in water according to package directions; drain well. Melt the butter in the skillet over medium heat.

Add the pierogis and sauté one side until they begin to brown on that side, then flip the pierogi. Use a spatula to gently toss everything all together. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the pierogi and kielbasa in the skillet.

 

Cover with a lid and allow the cheese to melt. Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve with sour cream and a dash of salt and pepper if desired.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 14 oz package kielbasa,
    sliced into ½ inch thick medallions
  • 3 small bell peppers,
    assorted colors, seeded and cut into strips
  • 1 medium onion,
    peeled and cut into strips
  • 1 box 12 count frozen
    potato and cheddar pierogies
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • cup shredded cheddar
    cheese
  • sour cream
    (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • 1. In a large skillet,
    heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the kielbasa and cook on
    each side until it begins to brown. Remove the browned kielbasa from
    the skillet and set aside. Leave the oil in the skillet.
    2. Add the bell pepper and onions to the skillet and cook over medium heat until softened,
    about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
    3. Boil the frozen pierogi in water according to package directions; drain well.
    4. Melt the butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add the pierogis and sauté one side
    until they begin to brown on that side, then flip the pierogi.
    5. Once the pierogi have been flipped in the skillet, add back the sautéed bell peppers
    and onions and the browned kielbasa. Use a spatula to gently toss
    everything all together.
    6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the pierogi and kielbasa in the skillet. Cover
    with a lid and allow the cheese to melt.
    7. Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve with sour cream and a dash of salt and pepper if
    desired.
